Women’s Basketball Sets Milestone in Win Over Olive-Harvey

The women’s basketball team cruised to a 73-19 home victory over Olive-Harvey on Friday, Dec. 4. Leading 37-14 at halftime, the Raiders held Olive-Harvey to a College record five points in the second half.

Gonzalez Earns MVP Honors
(February 27, 2009)
Sophomore forward Ana Gonzalez (Niles West) was named Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference MVP in women’s basketball. Only the third women’s player in College history to win the award, Gonzalez averaged 18.2 points and 9.2 rebounds in Illinois Skyway games this season.

Oakton Women’s Basketball Coach Reaches Milestone

Oakton Community College women’s basketball coach Rich Bolinder recently achieved a genuine coaching milestone – 500 career wins. The landmark victory occurred Tuesday, Feb. 10, when the Raiders defeated Elgin Community College 59-43. His 500 victories include wins at the high school and college level. Men’s Soccer Rakes in Postseason Awards

The Oakton Community College men’s soccer team finished the 2008 campaign with a perfect record (7-0) in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and overall posted 13 wins against just three losses.

Raking in Player of the Week Honors
Sophomore forward Ana Gonzalez (Niles West)
has been honored again as the NJCAA Division II District D Player
of the Week. She combined to score 55 points and 26 rebounds in
her two games for the week of December 6. Against Olive Harvey College
on Saturday, December 6, she scored 36 points, which tied a school
record for most points in a single game last achieved in 1994 by
Jane Steffan. Gonzalez also scored 19 points and tallied 15 rebounds
against Triton College on Thursday, December 4.

The Oakton Community College men’s soccer team clinched the
2008 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title with a 2-1 victory
over McHenry County College on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Volleyball Earns National Academic Recognition
The American Volleyball Coaches
Association has recognized Oakton Community College’s volleyball
team for its recent academic success. The 2007-08 AVCA Team Academic
Award honors squads that have matched their dedication to the sport
of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. To be eligible for
the national award, teams must have a minimum cumulative grade point
average of 3.30 during the academic year.

Athletes Receive National Academic Honors
The National Junior College Athletic Conference
has recognized three Oakton Community College students for academic
achievement in 2007-08. Students earn the Distinguished Academic
All-American honor by achieving a 3.80 grade point average or higher
after completing 48 credit hours. Academic All-American honors were
given to students with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79 after completing
